Tendencies to shut down

Overall a neat and handy phone. Great screen and easy to use touch pad. There are, however, a number of flaws that I am seriously not impressed with. For example, the phone can simply shutdown or just reboot itself at anytime, loosing data that you may be working on, or game progress. This has happened between once and three times a week since I got the phone two months ago. Also, sometimes it has problems connecting to a call, either incoming or outgoing, whereby the phone is making a connection but neither party can hear anything. This has happened a number of times when connected with a bluetooth device in particular, either through the device or choosing the handset, but the phone needs to be powered off completely to solve this problem, disconnecting from the bluethooth device does not suffice. This has happened wtih more than one bluetooth device. Fianllay, the phone sometimes does not recognise numbers, even though they are saved in the contacts, displaying the number and not the name.

Underrated

Got this as an upgrade in October for my previous Nokia N900 and it is a tale of 3 phones due to the various Symbian updates which have occurred in this timeframe. The original version was ok, it did the job, multitasking was fine, i.e. could have music playing - piped via the fm transmittor to my car radio and browse the internet or lookup my location via the maps.
Symbian Anna arrived in November timeframe and the whole UI seemed to change for the better, more like the N9 - Meego look, battery life improved a little as well. Symbian Belle arrived last month and again a my N8 gained a new personality. 6 home screens with 6 full width widgets per screen or smaller ones 2 or 3 wide again by 6 layers. I have my phone set to a contacts page, a music page, email and social updates page and one for mapping.
Battery life = 1.5 days with email and surfing.
Mapping is brilliant, travelled across UK / Ireland and did not have an exhorbitant roaming rates.
Camera is excellent, still to be surpassed and with each update has been tweaked a bit more, getting more options for filters / retouching and faster video.
Bluetooth wise, hooks up perfectly with the Command system in my Mercedes. using the Bluetooth HPF module - you may see alternating views in different parts of the interweb suggesting that you need a SAP v2 module at £300.. not the case. In fact I use my N8 for music via fm transmittor, mapping and hands free calls without issue. I am struggling to find another phone that will give me all this along with class leading camera / video and good battery life.
Apps wise? The std browser got a whole remake with Belle, Skype however was and still is broken. Nokia City lens is a boon as is the public transport app (both of these are still beta but totally functional) The usual FB and Twitter apps are functional.
Overall? 5 Stars, this is completely overlooked by Android / iPhone users because it is Symbian... their loss. Even the N9 or Lumia 800s have lost the FM transmittors and the camera has been downgraded. So its a waiting game to find something to match this.

I have this phone over a year. It is the best phone i've ever owned. The camera is fantastic. It is so easy to use. Copy and paste is really handy. The only downside is that OVI need to get better apps going.

Phone keeps Dying

I thought this would be a good phone and I've always had Nokia but this has turned out to be the worst phone I've had. Not only does it keep freezing and switching itself off, some of the basic apps don't work and it keeps losing the network connection. Really made my mind up to get an iPhone.

Got this phone over 14 months ago & still works perfectly :).. Have dropped it A LOT & still no problems with it.. VERY sturdy.. Great apps, deadly memory & camera very good.. Battery could last longer though & its slightly too big :/ but the weight is fine :).. Can hold over 1500 texts at one go & has everything you may need! Definitely recommend. It really is the perfect android :D

bought few month ago and from the first day there was a problem with this phone which was switching off itself. was sent to nokia service and got it back after three weeks and was assured that there's nothing wrong with this phone and that's why I'm not getting replacement phone. the problem was getting worse and the phone was switched off more than active (switching itself off in my handbag or even when being charged). this morning it died and is not responding to anything. so disappointed!

Great phone hope the problems are not starting now

I've had the phone just over 4 months now, and to date have found it excellent. I have read both good and bad reviews, but still decided to get one.
However yesterday the phone just turned itself off, and would not switch back on ( despite having a full charge displayed, before it died), sent back to Vodafone, and told that it might take up to 10 days for repair.
If this is the start of the problems, then I have made the wrong choice of phone.

Nokia N8 is a cracker

I have had this phone now for 8 months, i love it!
It was my first touchscreen/ smartphone and it took a while to get my fingers calibrated for it but now i couldn't go back, i have never really had it freeze, only some installation issues with some apps
The camera on the phone is very very good as is the HD video
I tend to be very hard on phones, if i'm at work it'll get dirty and has been dropped countless times and the only result is a few battle scars.
The battery is as with all smartphone's when used often worth a days usage
The only negative thing about the phone is there is not as many apps for it as its competiters might have, if Ovi were to be quicker off the mark this phone would have it all!!

Definitely would not recommend buying this phone. Got it as a present last Christmas and have just sent it away for the second time to be fixed. Phone froze the first time and the camera has given up now. Was told both times that everything I have saved on my phone will be lost. I just don't think its good enough for a phone that costs over €400. It is my first Nokia phone in along time and i wont be rushing to get another one. A samsung or an iphone would be a better option

No more Nokia
Date:24 April, 2011

I bought this phone because of the price, and because that the camera is excellent. It's not a bad phone, as long as you don't use it for phone calls. If the phone touches your head when you're talking, it puts call on hold, hangs up or does something else. Every call gets cut off at least once and I have to call back. It's in for service at the moment - the bottom fell off. I've had a cover on it all the time and I haven't dropped it so it's no reason for it to fall apart. I don't know if I'll bother to put the SIM card back in it when I get it back.

Have the phone just over a month, and have to the best phone I have ever had. Camera top quality, internet quality and speed you can beat, user friendly as lot of people have mentioned battery can be bit on the short side but then again the phone is rarely out of my hands so can't really complain. My suggestion get this phone and get it now.

this is a great phone. 12mp camera (HD). connect it to your HD tv and watch everything that is on the phone including messages, emails, apps and everything else. some people say it crashes a lot and that is mainly due to too many applications open. just close them when your finished with them and make sure you dont store or download anything to the c memory. make sure you have the latest sofware downloaded and bobs yours uncle.!!!

I have just owned this phone for one month and I am in love! I previously owned a samsung touchscreen so I thought I had a fair idea of what I was getting but I have to say there are so many little features on this phone. The OS is great with so many free games to play. The camera has fantastic clarity and so too has the screen. My husband was so impressed with this phone that he went the very next day and bought one! He loves the easy access to his facebook and the satnav and camera. I have to say it is one of these phones you could play with for hours. The only down side to is the battery life, no more than a day and a half with constant use. But given the amount of fun you can have with it I would say its fair usage. Would definitely recommend this to a friend. ;-)
